Enjoy a working holiday in the Caribbean!
If you are a speech and language therapist, physiotherapist, occupational
therapist, or educational psychologist who loves working with children but needs
a holiday, get out your atlas and have a look at St. Lucia in the West Indies,
just 13 and one-half degrees north of the equator.
The Child Development and Guidance Centre, founded in 1998 by Dr. Brigitte
Schüling, a paediatrician and psychotherapist from Germany, is in need of volunteers
for its centre, located in Castries, the capital city of St. Lucia. Volunteers
are welcome from October to July for any length of time longer than
three weeks.
Between 1998 and 2002 volunteers from England, Germany and America have made it
possible for the centre to offer a three-week Summer Camp. Click here to find
out more about the summer camp.
The CDGC is grateful that in the past some volunteers have been able to find
support in their home area to pay part or all of their expenses of traveling
to St. Lucia. However, the CDGC offers airfaire, accomodation and a stipend to
cover basic living expenses for volunteers who are willing to assist us for
at least six weeks.
Although we have more than 400 children waiting for therapy, there will still
be time for some sightseeing, and sampling the local Creole cuisine, along
with Piña Coladas made with St. Lucia’s own Bounty Rum. For information on
things to do in St. Lucia, visit
www.stluciatravel.com.lc/thingsto.htm.
In addition to sampling the island life, you will return from your holiday with
a real feeling of satisfaction, knowing that you have used your talents to help
make life a little brighter for the special needs children in St. Lucia.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Dr. Brigitte Schüling by
